THE GREAT REEF INITIATIVE
Surrounded by close to 3,000 individual reefs stretching over 2,600km – the world’s largest reef system – Lizard Island Research Station is one of the best places in the world to learn about reef preservation.
In 2022, in collaboration with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, guests from Lizard Island Resort joined volunteers on a flotilla of boats in completing surveys of 16 coral reefs surrounding the island as part of the annual Great Reef Census.
Now, each year between October and January, visitors have the chance to join these photographic surveys while snorkelling or diving the reef. Guests will learn from their guides as they snap away, deepening their connection to, and understanding of one of Australia and the world’s natural icons through active participation.
Anticipation of travel, discovery and adventure is an addictive feeling for many travellers.
However recent years have reminded us of the complexity of travel. Any uncertainty can throw a real spanner in the works, and delays, change in plans due to reasons out of the traveller’s control are a genuine problem for increasingly time-poor travellers.
World Nomads has travel insurance options to cover travellers regardless of the scale of the adventure. Twists and turns are a part of any good journey, and the sense of protection provided by travel insurance from World Nomads means you can enjoy them all the more.
